Japan’s oldest Zen temple is the Shofukuji Temple which was built in the
12th century by the founder of Zen. We also recommend a visit to the Tochoji
Temple which holds a wooden statue of Buddha. It is open to visitors every day.
To see Fukuoka at the time of the Meiji and Taisho period, we recommend a visit
to the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum. You will learn a lot about the way of living
and the customs of that time.
